Dr Lu recently joined the Language and Communication Centre as a Lecturer. He received an international graduate scholarship from King's College London in 2013, and completed his PhD at KCL's Centre for Language, Discourse and Communication in 2018. His recent sociolinguistic research is focused on academically elite students in Singapore and how these cosmopolitan individuals develop connections to local spaces. Prior to academia, he taught General Paper in a junior college in Singapore for four years. His interests include linguistic ethnography, interactional sociolinguistics, and issues pertaining to transnational migration, ethnicity, language planning and policy, and education.
